Texas City ISD has partnerships with local business and industry leaders to train next generation students at the Industrial Trades Center in programs offering skilled labor expertise for entry-level jobs in their respective industry workforce. This continuing education program provides a basis for high-skill, high-wage and high-demand positions in specialty trade industries.
The history of this project started with the District purchasing the highly visible 17-acre site previously owned by First Baptist Church. The site is located in close proximity to Texas City High School and utilizes paving and existing established oak trees as an integral component of the new design of the facility. This state-of-the-art building (31,770 SF) was designed of interior curriculum space in Phase 1 and space for expansion in Phase 2. Phase 2 allows for an 8,000 SF Automotive Technology Building providing areas for car storage and workforce spaces in the upcoming future. Phase 1 design focused on inclusion of the following academies: Welding, Pipefitting, Machinist, Instrumentation and Electrical, Construction Trades and Maritime. All programs are comprised of a lab with its own classroom setup and advanced instructional live training simulators. A service yard was incorporated on the back side of the workforce spaces to allow for exterior covered work areas and processing of materials. The entry plaza leads up to the main entrance which showcases exposed steel, wood deck, stone and brick accents and shaded glass walls to let all visitors experience the building structure for educational purposes.
Large, influential industry companies such as Marathon Oil Corp. and Valero donated brand-new, real-world equipment for daily student use. The accessibility of heavy equipment simulators to better prepare students allows the District to offer OSHA, NCCER, and AWS certifications. The facility is also available to industry and community colleges for training in the evenings and on weekends. Both local industry and District engagement at ITC has provided numerous sponsor and professional opportunities not only for students but community members as well.
+ Master Planning was completed by IBI Group for this district.
