San Jacinto College Maritime Technology and Training Center San Jacinto College District | La Porte, TX

San Jacinto College’s Maritime Technology and Training Center is a state of the art facility that meets the demands of maritime industry professionals. The 13 acre site is located at the Bayport Terminal in the Port of Houston. Its location in its proximity to actual ship navigation lanes and visibility to the port industries is ideal.

Taking advantage of their long-standing industry partnerships, San Jacinto College partnered with the Port of Houston to create a facility that fosters the relationship and provides much needed educational and hands-on training for students and industry mariners.

The Maritime Technology and Training Center facility is a showpiece of maritime education, rivaling training facilities in the private sector. The building’s public multi-functional areas include a lobby, reception area and multi-purpose rooms. Outside industry or trade groups may utilize these spaces for training or conferences. The building’s instructional spaces range from traditional classrooms (meeting U.S. Coast Guard Standards) to highly specialized simulation and engineering technology rooms. Ancillary spaces associated with instruction include instructor offices and support spaces as well as a galley and lunchroom.

The U.S. Coast Guard approved aquatic training pool includes a training platform, dressing rooms, lockers, scuba gear and equipment storage areas. Water depth range ranges from 4-0” to 12’6”.

+ Master planning was completed by IBI Group for this district.

“Texas’ First Associate Degree Maritime Transportation Program. Launched in the fall semester of 2012 and at the request of local industry for a higher quality and a more well-rounded entry-level professional mariner, San Jacinto College is home to the Associate Degree in Maritime Transportation that combines USCG and STCW-approved maritime training with the college-level academics required of an associate degree. San Jac’s goal is to provide new mariners to the industry with practical knowledge in the areas of math, science, and English that most closely relates to their maritime career path.”
