Mark French, Senior Principal | Director | US Education Lead
With over 30 years of experience, Mr. French continues to establish himself as a leader in the field of educational facility planning and design. As an advocate for next generation learning environments focused on the learner experience, Mark’s collaborative planning and design approach is reinventing the way we go about making places where great learning can occur.
As a leader in educational facility design, Mr. French earned the Recognized Educational Facility Professional (REFP) designation from the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (now A4LE) in 2002. In 2006, he became a LEED Accredited Professional (Leadership in Energy and Energy and Environmental Design); in 2010, earned a LEED BD+C specialty certification from the U.S. Green Building Council; in 2013, he became a Certified Educational Facility Planner; and in 2016, Mark was designated as an Accredited Learning Environments Planner (ALEP). Additionally, Mark was awarded the 2017 Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Southern Region Planner of the Year and was a finalist for the A4LE International Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
Mr. French has served on the international planning and design award jury for the MacConnell Award for three years with A4LE and has been an active member of the Houston AGC and Gulf Coast Chapter of A4LE joint task force committee for over 10 years. He has also served as an ALEP Commissioner for A4LE accreditation for two terms and has been involved in the development and implementation of IBI Group’s web-based project management and programming collaboration sites.
Mark is a sought after industry expert, frequently contributing to outlets such as AGC, A4LE, TASA, IES and the University of Houston discussing current trends and research in educational design and project management.
