Stephen F. Austin Elementary School Addition and Renovations Conroe ISD | Cut and Shoot, TX

Stephen F. Austin Elementary School, one of the oldest active elementary schools in Conroe ISD, concluded its useful lifespan of more than 60 years. Even after multiple additions over the years, the facility required replacement overhauls to meet the current code and the latest District educational program and technology upgrades, as well as safety and security requirements. With the collaboration of the District, staff and community, the plan for new additions and comprehensive renovations was developed.

The final design retained the latest school addition consisting of 23 classrooms and the library. Other areas of the school were demolished and replaced with new construction, housing an administrative suite, kitchen, cafeteria, stage, music room, two art rooms, 21 classrooms, two special needs rooms, a multi-purpose gym and ancillary spaces. The complete HVAC, electrical and safety systems were also replaced.

To increase safety and improve site circulation, the main entry was moved away from its original location adjacent to Highway 105 and relocated further back on the property. This improved traffic flow by creating a separation between automobile and bus drives, as well as creating additional vehicular stacking.

“This challenging project was completed without impacting the ongoing operation of the school and now provides a modernized campus that will continue to proudly serve the community.”
